A little read on Food Grade Barrels.
A word of caution about used barrels. This is not to scare anyone. I recently checked out some used 55 gallon barrels advertised online. It was a great price, $10.00 each for ten barrels. I followed up and was told they only contained water. I headed to the location a day later. Met the young woman who was selling them and inquired again after inspecting the barrels and opening one up. Again, she told me they only contained water. Some liquid in one of the cantainers spilled and got onto my legs. (Three weeks later, I still had burns on my legs) Another person came to the location and said they contained caustic soda with a PH of 12+. At that moment, the idea of dealing in used containers was done. She was a very nice young woman who was selling them, she just didn't know, what she didn't know. It isn't worth the risk. We will only sell new, food grade containers. Period.

Water Filtration
There are a variety of water filtration options available on the market. These filters range from small pocket straws to larger, counter-top gravity fed systems that run as much as $300.00 or more.
The filtration level for these varies, can include the removal of flouride and small particulate matter down to .5 micron. The one drawback to these filters is how much they will filter per hour. Another way to look at it is how long would it take to filter 1 gallon of water. If you have one filter system, and a family or group of six, this may put a demand on that system, that is beyond it's capability.
We have put together a bucket filter system that is simple to use, and inexpensive. Our system uses new, food grade buckets and lids, a replaceable ceramic dome filter, and costs less than $50.00.
This filtration system will produce 1 gallon of clean water every 1-1/2 to 2 hours. The low price makes it easy to use four units, filtering a combined 4 gallons every 1-1/2 to 2 hours. If you have a family or group of six adults, this would provide enough filtered water over a 12 hour period for your whole family. Each filter will be effective for about 1,000 gallons of water each. Different filters are easily substituted for the dome filter included with our system. The convenient spigot makes dispensing water from the unit easy.
